Our Neighborhood
Highland Park is a suburban community of 30,000 residents on the shore of Lake Michigan, 23 miles north of downtown Chicago. The community is part of the north Shore, one of the most affluent and highly educated areas in the u.S. Its naturally beautiful setting includes six hundred acres of Park District land, extensive beaches, and deep ravines. Highland Park also boasts vibrant shopping districts, the Chicago Botanic Garden on its southern border, an ice arena, a water park, and numerous private country clubs. Highland Park hosts the historic Ravinia Festival, the oldest outdoor music festival in North America offering world class jazz, classical, and popular concerts and is the summer home to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Highland Park Hospital, affiliated with University of Chicago Hospitals, provides state of the art medical care. The city is also well served by four Metra rail stations and major expressways, with O’Hare International Airport roughly 20 minutes away.
